Brazilians are famous for their happiness, unique culinary and festivals - typically the "Carnaval". However, there are several other festivities that any Brazilian is aware of - called Festa Junina or June Festival.
June Festival is a Catholic traditional celebration that was introduced during the country’s colonisation from Portugal. This event is based on the European Midsummer festivities, which celebrates the harvest and the saints, mainly Saint Anthony, Saint John the Baptist and Saint Peter.
Well, as you may have guessed by now, "Festa Junina or June Festival" includes large social gatherings, typical dancing, drinking and eating - A LOT.
Typical Dancing - "Gang Dancing with Fake Marriage"
As any Brazilian gatherings, you will find plenty of food to make you feel guilty before the end of the night. Having said that, you will only experience this in June, so you will have another 11 months to lose weight! Some of the typical foods are corn cake, popcorn, corn on the cob, pumpkin sweets, mulled wine (Brazilian version - of course), roasted peanuts and sweets, quentao (Hot spirit cocktail - recipe of this post - Yasss!), and many more.
One of the most famous drinks in this festival is Quentão, a hot drink made with cachaça, ginger, sugar, cloves and cinnamon.
